Life in the ADHD Lane:

not exactly a metaphor, more of an autobiographical note

Life in the ADHD lane is like, you have a short to-do list with clearly defined, doable tasks, which you wrote last night, and that you can finish by noon, but now you can’t find the list, and while you’re looking for it you see that the kitchen needs cleaning, and while you’re cleaning the kitchen you find your phone in the dishrack, so you check your email and discover your account is overdrawn, and you remember that you forgot to transfer in your paycheck, and while you’re on hold to the bank to beg them not to ding you $45 each for three bounced payments (rent, phone, internet) you start making coffee, but you’re out of coffee, and you can’t go out to buy more because you’re still in your bathrobe, so you leave the phone on the counter to go look in the dryer for clean clothes, and when you get back the bank has finally answered and hung up because you weren’t there, but you have a new text from the friend you forgot you were supposed to meet for lunch, asking where you are, and you remember that was why you wanted to finish your to do list, the one you still can’t find, by noon, and you text a frantic apology and leap into some clothes and realise you haven’t taken your meds and dash to the medicine cabinet and THERE’S your list! wrapped around your meds bottle so you won’t lose it.

The first thing on the list is “transfer paycheck!!”

The second is “lunch!”
